Brazilian star scores twice as Gunners close the gap on league leaders Liverpool.
Gabriel Jesus delivered a standout performance at Selhurst Park, leading Arsenal to a dominant 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace and narrowing the gap with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Coming off a hat-trick against Palace in the League Cup just days prior, Jesus wasted no time making an impact. He scored twice within the first 15 minutes (6’, 14’), displaying clinical finishing. His goals came on either side of Ismaila Sarr’s equalizer for Palace in the 11th minute, setting the tone for Arsenal’s commanding win.
Injury Blow to Saka
The Gunners suffered a setback when Bukayo Saka, making his 250th appearance for the club, was forced off midway through the first half with a suspected hamstring strain. However, Arsenal’s depth shone through.
Kai Havertz extended the lead with a 38th-minute goal, followed by strikes from Gabriel Martinelli (60’) and substitute Declan Rice (84’) to seal the victory.
Unbeaten in London Derbies
The result marked Arsenal’s first calendar year unbeaten in London derbies since 2004, moving them up to third in the table. They now sit a point behind Chelsea and three points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who face Tottenham on Sunday.
What’s Next?
Arsenal will host Ipswich at the Emirates on Friday evening, while Crystal Palace, now 15th in the standings and four points above the relegation zone, prepare to face Bournemouth on Boxing Day.
Manager Mikel Arteta praised his team’s resilience and attacking prowess, as the Gunners continue their push for the Premier League title.
