Plateau State leader reassures citizens after false alarm at busy market area
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has officially denied reports of an explosion in Jos, the state capital, after rumors circulated on Tuesday about an alleged blast.
The initial reports suggested that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) had been planted near the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) site, close to the bustling Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area. According to these accounts, three IEDs were supposedly found in the market vicinity, sparking concern among residents.
However, Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, released a statement debunking these rumors, clarifying that the alarm had been triggered by a misunderstanding. A group of people reportedly mistook a heap of polythene bags as a potential explosive threat.
In response, security agencies, including an anti-bomb squad from the Plateau State Police Command, acted swiftly to secure the area. After a comprehensive cordon and search operation, no explosives were found.
Governor Mutfwang called on Plateau citizens to remain calm and vigilant, urging them to be responsible ambassadors for the state. He also assured the public of his administration’s dedication to upholding safety and security across Plateau State, emphasizing the commitment to a peaceful and secure environment.
