Former Liverpool Star Suggests Salah’s Departure May Be Imminent
Graeme Souness, former Liverpool player and pundit, believes Mohamed Salah has already set plans in motion to leave the club, despite the forward’s ambiguous comments regarding his future. Salah, currently in the final year of his contract with the Reds, has been in fine form with six goal contributions in three matches this season.
After a recent match, Salah commented, “this is my last year” with Liverpool, leading to speculation about his future. While Souness doesn’t believe Salah definitively intended to announce his departure, he feels the Egyptian star has already made up his mind to leave Anfield.
“I think he’s got something lined up,” said Souness, adding that Salah’s comments may not have come out as intended during the Sky Sports interview. Souness also speculated that family considerations, such as his wife’s preference to live in an Arab-speaking country, might play a role in Salah’s decision.
Salah was the subject of a lucrative approach from the Saudi Pro League last summer, and recent reports suggest that multiple Saudi clubs are preparing contract offers far exceeding his current Liverpool salary. If he leaves at the end of the season, Salah could move to one of these Arab clubs.
Rumors suggest Liverpool may already be preparing for his potential departure, with reports linking Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane as a possible replacement. Meanwhile, other Liverpool stars are also facing uncertain futures, with Trent Alexander-Arnold linked to Real Madrid, while Virgil van Dijk has expressed a desire to remain at Anfield.
If Salah departs, he will leave a lasting legacy at Liverpool, with 214 goals to his name, ranking him third on the club’s all-time scoring list.
