Kylian Mbappe’s Brace Secures Hard-Fought Three Points on the Road
In a match that demanded patience over flair, Real Madrid demonstrated their championship mettle with a professional 3-0 victory over a fiercely determined Real Oviedo side on Saturday. Despite being far from their free-flowing best, the La Liga giants found a way to break down their opponent’s deep-lying defense and secured a crucial clean sheet away from home.
The visitors controlled the tempo from the opening whistle but were repeatedly frustrated by a packed Oviedo backline, often lacking the final piercing pass in a congested first half. The deadlock was finally broken in the 37th minute by a moment of pure quality. Youngster Arda Guler spotted a clever run and slid a perfect through ball into the path of Kylian Mbappe, who made no mistake, expertly firing his shot into the corner past goalkeeper Aaron Escandell.
The second half continued in a similar vein, with Madrid probing for a second goal to kill the game off while Oviedo offered little threat in attack. However, the home side came agonizingly close to a shock equalizer with just ten minutes remaining. Substitute Kwasi Sibo’s first-time strike flashed across the goal and rattled the outside of the post, giving the Madrid faithful a nervous moment.
That scare seemed to jolt Los Blancos back into life. Just moments after Oviedo’s near-miss, Mbappe sealed the victory with his second goal of the night. Substitute Vinicius Junior pounced on a loose ball and fed Mbappe on the left side of the box. The French superstar opened his body and rifled a powerful shot home to finally extinguish Oviedo’s hopes.
Vinicius then added a gloss to the scoreline in stoppage time, calmly slotting home after being set up by Brahim Diaz to complete a hard-earned three points.
The result sees Madrid maintain their strong start to the season. They will next face Mallorca, who are still searching for their first win. For a valiant Real Oviedo, the challenge doesn’t get easier as they prepare to host Real Sociedad.
