City Boss Previews High-Stakes Liverpool Clash, Pointing to Season’s Long and Unpredictable Nature
In a candid assessment of the Premier League title race, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that the relentless form of current leaders Arsenal can feel daunting, but he insists the ultimate prize is never decided this early in the campaign.
“If they continue this way – they play games, they don’t concede goals, not even clear chances, and they win and win… Oh my God, it will be almost impossible,” Guardiola remarked. However, he was quick to add a dose of reality, stating, “But we are in early November, and early November nobody wins the title. You can lose it, but nobody wins it.”
The immediate focus for Guardiola’s squad is a titanic clash this Sunday as they host reigning champions Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. The match is crucial for both clubs as they seek to keep pace with the Gunners at the summit.
Reflecting on the unpredictable flow of a season, Guardiola pointed to Liverpool’s recent resurgence. Just a week ago, after a run of six losses in seven games, many were writing off Arne Slot’s side. Now, after consecutive wins, the mood has shifted entirely.
“I know how quick it is that everything changes here,” Guardiola observed. “One week ago, Liverpool – a disaster. Now, they’ve won two and are coming back to their best. I have a high opinion about Liverpool right now.”
He drew parallels to his own team’s experience last season, when City endured a difficult winter period, winning just once in 13 games. “There is not one manager or club that doesn’t live these situations,” he said, dismissing the notion that a bad run defines a team. “In 10 years here, we lived two or three months bad last season. The rest of the time… we were incredibly high.”
In team news, Guardiola indicated that City are unlikely to risk key midfielder Rodri, who is dealing with a fresh injury setback after missing the midweek Champions League victory.
