Guardiola Casts Doubt on Haaland’s Long-Term Future at Manchester City

Amid persistent links to Barcelona, the manager admits “who knows what is going to happen,” despite the striker’s recent long-term contract.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has stirred speculation about the future of star striker Erling Haaland, conceding he cannot predict where the Norwegian will be in the coming years despite signing a new long-term contract.

The comments came during a press conference where Guardiola was asked about reports from Spain that Barcelona president Joan Laporta still considers Haaland his “dream signing.”

“Can you tell me one club who would not want Erling Haaland as a dream?” Guardiola responded rhetorically. “What is going to happen? Honestly, I don’t know.”

While he emphasized that Haaland is happy and performing well, the manager introduced a note of uncertainty about the long term. “I think Erling is not stupid enough to sign something he would not like to accomplish. That’s for sure,” Guardiola stated. “But, football, who knows what is going to happen in the next time. Nobody knows.”

The 25-year-old Haaland remains the undeniable focal point of City’s attack, having already scored 11 goals across all competitions this season. His importance is highlighted by the fact that the team’s next top scorer is an opposing player who scored two own goals in a single match.

Despite Haaland signing a new 10-year deal earlier this year, rumors of a future move to Spain have persisted. Guardiola’s latest comments, while praising his player, will do little to quell the growing transfer speculation surrounding one of the world’s most lethal strikers.
