Guardiola Praises Man City’s Relentless Mentality Amid Uncertain Future

Manager lauds players’ commitment as he ponders next steps beyond current season

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised his team’s unwavering drive as they push for a fifth consecutive Premier League title. The 53-year-old’s contract with City expires at the end of the season, and while he has not yet confirmed if he will renew, he expressed admiration for his players’ competitive spirit.

Reflecting on City’s consistency since his arrival in 2016, Guardiola said, “I’m happy, a lot. I’m impressed. I never thought when I arrived here that in a ninth season, we’d still have this consistency.” He highlighted his players’ motivation, noting, “They enjoy training and competing every day; they all want to be involved.” Despite a shortened bench due to injuries, he emphasized his squad’s commitment, saying, “We are in difficulty with a lack of players to rotate, but they still give everything.”

Guardiola’s future may also depend on personal factors, including family considerations and the possible departure of City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain, at season’s end.

However, Guardiola dispelled any concerns about growing disinterest among his players, emphasizing, “They have an incredible mentality. There’s a tendency to relax after winning, but I don’t see that here.”

As City remain unbeaten after eight matches and sit just one point behind league leaders Liverpool, Guardiola underscored his team’s resilience. “They push each other, and they push me. They are true competitors,” he said, adding that his players stay focused, “forgetting immediately, win or lose,” and always looking to what’s next.

With a win against Southampton on Saturday, City could go top if Liverpool falters against Arsenal, keeping their title ambitions strong even as Guardiola’s future at the club remains undecided.
