Manchester City boss hails Rodri as “the best player in the world” and praises new keeper James Trafford’s energy ahead of tough Spurs clash.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola received a timely boost ahead of Saturday’s heavyweight clash against Tottenham Hotspur, confirming the return of midfield general Rodri and creative star Phil Foden.
Both players missed City’s emphatic 4-0 opening-day win at Wolves due to minor fitness concerns but have now returned to full training and are available for selection. Only Mateo Kovačić, Joško Gvardiol, and Sávio remain sidelined.
Guardiola spoke glowingly of Rodri’s influence, calling him “the best player in the world” and emphasizing how important his consistency is to the team. “I just want consistency with Rodri… I don’t have any doubts about his ability,” he said.
The City boss also had warm words for Spurs manager Thomas Frank, who took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer. “It’s too early to judge, but I have no doubt Thomas will do an incredible job at a big club,” Guardiola remarked. “He’s a top-class manager.”
Despite City’s dominant start, Guardiola knows Tottenham have often been a thorn in his side—including last season’s shocking 4-0 defeat. Still, he believes this is a new season with “new vibes,” and his squad is refreshed and ready.
One lingering question is in goal, where new signing James Trafford impressed on his debut. Guardiola did not confirm whether he would start over Ederson but praised the 22-year-old’s “youth and desire,” adding that a decision would be made after dinner.
With key players back and confidence high, City will look to continue their strong start in what promises to be a thrilling early-season showdown.
