Guardiola’s Warning to Man City: “We Cannot Rely Only on Haaland”

Despite the Norwegian’s match-winning brace against Everton, the City boss demands more goals from his wingers and midfielders, pointing to a worrying reliance on his star striker.

Pep Guardiola has issued a clear challenge to his Manchester City squad, urging them to share the goalscoring burden and stop leaning so heavily on the phenomenal form of Erling Haaland.

The warning came just moments after Haaland himself scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, taking his personal tally to a league-leading 11 for the season. Guardiola acknowledged that his striker is a “key man” who could have scored even more, but he expressed clear frustration that the team’s other attackers are not pulling their weight.

“At the same time, we cannot do good things with just Erling,” Guardiola stated bluntly. “Our wingers, attacking midfielders and the other players have to make a step up.”

The statistics reveal a stark imbalance. While Haaland has 11 Premier League goals, no other player in the squad has managed more than one. Guardiola specifically named Savinho, Jérémy Doku, and Tijjani Reijnders for missing clear chances against Everton.

“The chances we create are so clear… They have to score goals,” the manager insisted, revealing that this is a recurring topic of conversation within the team. He pointed out that while the players finish well in training, they must now translate that form to the pressure of matchdays, signaling that their places could be on the line if the trend continues.
