Sporting CP Accuse Star’s Camp of “Blackmail” as Super Agent Mendes Gets Rejected
The high-stakes battle for Viktor Gyokeres has taken a dramatic turn, with Arsenal and Manchester United still leading the chase—but now facing unexpected roadblocks. The Swedish striker’s relationship with Sporting CP has soured over a broken “gentleman’s agreement,” while tensions between agents threaten to derail negotiations entirely.
Sources reveal Gyokeres believes Sporting reneged on a promise to let him leave for a reasonable fee this summer. The Portuguese club, meanwhile, fumes over what they call “blackmail” tactics from the player’s camp. The situation grew messier when super agent Jorge Mendes—known for his ties to Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United—offered to mediate, only to be swiftly rejected by Gyokeres’ representative, Hasan Cetinkaya.
“Mendes irritated Cetinkaya by interfering,” a source told Record, adding that Gyokeres’ agent insists he holds “exclusive mandate” over the deal.
Further complicating matters, a leaked voice note appears to contradict Sporting’s public stance. In the recording, sporting director Hugo Viana allegedly agrees to a €60 million base fee plus €10 million in bonuses—a figure club president Federico Varandas has since angrily dismissed.
“Sporting will not accept €60 million plus bonuses,” Varandas declared in a fiery statement. “We keep our word, but we will not be blackmailed.”
Gyokeres, who dazzled last season with 63 goal contributions (43 goals, 10 assists), remains one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards. But with Sporting digging in and agents at war, his suitors—including Man City, whose own director Viana is now embroiled—face a turbulent negotiation.
As the drama unfolds, one thing is clear: this transfer saga is far from settled.
