Manchester United boss hails Brazilian’s resilience after first goal sparks 4-2 win, while holding up Casemiro as the ultimate “example” for his squad.
In the afterglow of a thrilling 4-2 victory over Brighton that propelled his team into the top four, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim reserved his most emotional praise for goal-scorer Matheus Cunha, acknowledging the personal struggle behind the Brazilian’s brilliant breakthrough.
Amorim revealed the immense pressure the £62.5 million signing had been under, making his stunning long-range opener—a curling effort into the bottom corner—all the more meaningful.
“He was struggling. He can hide that, but I understand he’s struggling,” Amorim told the BBC with palpable empathy. “But he shows confidence in every moment of the game. I really love the way he defends… Without the ball, he’s improving. That is going to be massive for our team.”

The manager directly addressed the weight of expectation on Cunha’s shoulders. “He needs to score goals; he suffered when he didn’t score,” Amorim said. “But he is a top player because he decides games, and I’m really pleased with him.”
The victory, sealed by a Bryan Mbeumo brace and a deflected strike from Casemiro, marked United’s first run of three consecutive Premier League wins since February. Amorim was also eager to highlight the resurgence of Casemiro, holding the 33-year-old up as a paradigm for the entire squad.
“He gives a lot of experience. He’s an example for everyone,” Amorim asserted. “In the beginning, he was behind other midfielders, but he fought and worked, and now he’s back in the national team. The other guys need to look at Casemiro.”
Looking ahead, the Portuguese boss suggested that the club’s absence from European competition has been a crucial factor in their recent development and consistency.
“You can feel the difference in the results now,” he explained. “Every team that has to play in Europe finds it so much harder. It’s a big advantage to have just one game a week, and we have to take advantage of that.”
With momentum building, the Red Devils will now prepare for a trip to Nottingham Forest on November 1st, aiming to extend their winning run and solidify their place in the top four.
