Hilda Baci Cooks Her Way Into History With Colossal Jollof Rice Feast

Celebrity chef’s ambitious attempt to break a Guinness World Record draws massive crowds and government praise in Lagos.

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci achieved a monumental culinary milestone on Saturday, successfully cooking the largest pot of jollof rice ever attempted in a bid to secure a new Guinness World Record.

The historic event, dubbed the ‘Gino World Jollof Festival,’ transformed the car park of Lagos’s Eko Hotel and Suites into a vibrant celebration of food and culture. Thousands of fans, fellow food vendors, and entertainers gathered to cheer on the 28-year-old chef as she undertook the grueling nine-hour challenge.

Baci cooked a staggering amount of rice—approximately 200 bags—in a custom-built pot that was a spectacle in itself, measuring six meters wide and tall and holding over 22,000 liters. While she had initially planned to use 250 bags, the final amount was adjusted due to logistical weighing challenges without diminishing the scale of the achievement.

The payoff was a mountain of flavorful jollof rice, which was then generously distributed to the public. Organizers handed out over 30,000 takeaway packs and even encouraged attendees to bring their own coolers to help share the massive bounty with the community.

The effort received a official nod of approval from the Federal Government. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, commended Baci, calling her quest “another demonstration of Nigeria’s global excellence.” He expressed hope that her record attempt would inspire a new generation of Nigerian creatives to showcase their talents on the world stage.

The event was a star-studded affair, with support from top Nigerian influencers and Nollywood stars like Funke Akindele, Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (aka Bambam), Enioluwa Adeoluwa, and Tomike Adeoye, who joined the thousands of fans in celebrating a proud moment for Nigerian cuisine.
