Social Media Activist Confused by Money Laundering Allegations, Says He Funds Charity Through Debt
Social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has finally spoken out after regaining his freedom from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a viral video shared online, the outspoken activist appeared alongside his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, inside a car as he addressed his fans about his recent detention. VDM seemed baffled by the money laundering allegations against him, jokingly questioning how he could be accused of such a crime when he barely has money to his name.
“How would they level allegations of money laundering on someone who doesn’t have money?” he said in the clip. “I have done so many charity [projects], they wonder how. They don’t know I use debt for charity.”
Despite the stress of the situation, VDM appeared in high spirits, reassuring his followers that he was now a free man. “Anyway, we are outside, with my lawyer of course,” he added with a smile.
The activist, known for his bold takes on social issues, did not provide further details about the EFCC’s case against him. However, his remarks suggest that he views the allegations as unfounded, given his financial situation.
Fans and followers have since flooded social media with reactions, with many expressing relief over his release while questioning the basis of the EFCC’s investigation.
As the story develops, supporters await more clarity on the matter—but for now, VeryDarkMan seems ready to move forward, debt-funded charity and all.
