French striker poised to complete €95m move as Reds secure long-term attacking solution*
Liverpool are on the verge of officially announcing Hugo Ekitike as their newest signing, with the French forward scheduled to undergo his medical on Tuesday before putting pen to paper.
According to multiple reports, including from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ekitike will fly to Merseyside on Tuesday morning to finalize the move. The 21-year-old is expected to complete his medical examinations immediately before signing a long-term contract with the Reds.
The deal, confirmed by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, will see Liverpool pay Eintracht Frankfurt an initial €90 million, with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons. Ekitike has reportedly agreed to a six-year contract, keeping him at Anfield until 2031, with earnings reaching up to €15 million per season.
The transfer marks a significant step in Liverpool’s summer rebuild, as manager Jürgen Klopp looks to bolster his attacking options. The tragic loss of Diogo Jota earlier this year, combined with Darwin Núñez’s inconsistent form since his 2022 arrival, has accelerated the club’s search for a proven No. 9.
Initially, the Reds had planned to offload Núñez before pursuing a new striker, but the urgency to strengthen their frontline prompted immediate action. After seeing an initial bid rejected last week, Liverpool returned with an improved offer to secure the highly rated Frenchman.
Romano’s signature “Here We Go” announcement on Saturday signaled the final stages of negotiations, with David Ornstein of The Athletic also confirming that an agreement had been reached.
Ekitike’s arrival will take Liverpool’s summer spending beyond €200 million, underlining their ambition to compete on all fronts this season. Fans will now eagerly await his official unveiling as the latest star to wear the famous red shirt.
