Early goal and second-half header seal 2-0 victory, extending Reds’ unbeaten run to five matches.
Liverwich climbed to sixth in the Premier League table on Saturday after two goals from Hugo Ekitike secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield. The win extends the Reds’ encouraging unbeaten streak to five matches across all competitions.
All the pre-match buzz had centered on Mohamed Salah’s return to the squad, but it was Ekitike who stole the spotlight with a match-defining performance. The French forward needed less than a minute to make his mark, latching onto a clever Joe Gomez header and slotting home past Bart Verbruggen inside the first minute.
Brighton, undaunted by the disastrous start, grew into the game and created several promising chances. Yankuba Minteh curled a shot just wide, and Diego Gomez was denied from close range by a sharp Alisson Becker save.

The game’s emotional high point arrived in the 26th minute when Joe Gomez’s injury forced an early substitution. Salah entered the pitch to a thunderous standing ovation from the Anfield faithful, nearly assisting Ekitike for a second shortly after coming on.
Brighton continued to press and missed a golden opportunity early in the second half when Diego Gomez somehow skewed a point-blank effort wide at the back post.
That miss proved costly just before the hour mark. Salah, growing into the game, delivered a perfect inswinging corner that found Ekitike completely unmarked to nod home his seventh league goal of the season and effectively seal the three points.
The Seagulls pushed to get back into the match, with substitute Kaoru Mitoma firing wide from a good position, but Liverpool’s defense held firm to see out a clean sheet and a vital win.
While Salah missed a late chance to add a third, the day belonged to Ekitike and a Liverpool side that continues to build momentum under manager Arne Slot.
