Barcelona Boss Praises Historic Comeback Against Madrid But Insists Title Race Isn’t Over
Barcelona took a giant leap toward the La Liga title with a thrilling El Clásico comeback, but head coach Hansi Flick refused to get carried away, telling reporters: “I don’t feel like a champion yet.”
The Catalans fought back from 2-0 down to beat Real Madrid 3-2, stretching their lead at the top to seven points. One more win will officially seal the trophy, but Flick remained grounded, emphasizing the challenges ahead. “This is football. Yes, we’re in a strong position… but we still need three more points,” he said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo. “Every opponent wants to beat us. We have the quality, but we have to stay focused.”
The victory was particularly impressive given Barcelona’s grueling 120-minute Champions League clash against Inter Milan just days earlier. “These players are fantastic,” Flick beamed. *”To come back from 0-2 after such a demanding match shows incredible mentality.”*
When asked about his own nerves during the chaotic match, the German coach joked, “I’ll need to get that checked!” He acknowledged the pressure of tactical decisions, especially with loud distractions from the Madrid bench, but praised his team’s resilience.
Despite the attacking fireworks, Flick admitted defensive improvements are needed. “When we press well, everything works, but mistakes like their first goal make it complicated,” he said. “We have to be more stable, but with matches every three days, training time is limited.”
Flick also singled out substitutes for their impact, highlighting the squad’s unity. “This group has a fantastic spirit—they love competing, and it shows,” he said.
Seventeen-year-old Lamine Yamal earned special praise for bouncing back after the Milan disappointment. “He’s confident, committed, and so smart for his age,” Flick said. “Today, he lifted us with his goal. Exactly what we needed.”
With Ferran Torres stepping up in Robert Lewandowski’s absence and a potential treble within reach, Flick has already made history—becoming the first Barça coach to win four Clásicos in his debut season. But for now, his message is clear: Celebrate today, focus tomorrow.
