FCT Minister Dismisses Collapse Claims as “Cheap Politics,” Vows Outlive Detractors
Abuja, Nigeria – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday brushed off social media rumors about his health, vowing to “write the condolence letters” of those wishing him dead.
The former Rivers State governor was responding to viral reports last week claiming he had collapsed at an Abuja event—a story his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, had already dismissed as “fake news.”
Speaking after inspecting key projects, including the International Conference Centre (ICC), Wike mocked the purveyors of the rumor, saying: “Everybody will die one day, but only God decides when. Some people are busy predicting my death—let me assure them, I’ll be the one signing their condolence letters.”
The outspoken minister attributed the false reports to political detractors seeking “cheap points.” His public appearance alongside other leaders during a Sallah visit to President Bola Tinubu days ago further dispelled the health speculation.
Wike, known for his combative style, remains unfazed by the controversy as he oversees major infrastructure projects in the nation’s capital.
