I’m Here to Win : New Liverpool Signing Frimpong Confident He Can Fill Alexander-Arnold’s Shoes

Dutch Defender Ready for Premier League Challenge After £40m Move from Leverkusen

Liverpool’s new right-back Jeremie Frimpong has boldly declared he’s ready to step into Trent Alexander-Arnold’s “big shoes” following the England star’s £60m move to Real Madrid last month.

The 24-year-old Dutch international, who became Arne Slot’s first signing as Liverpool manager, admitted the pressure of replacing a club legend but insisted he has the mentality and quality to succeed at Anfield.

“Of course they’re big shoes to fill – this is Liverpool,” Frimpong told Sky Sports with a confident smile. “But I’ve come here to win. I believe in myself completely, and I know what it takes to play for champions.”

Frimpong’s £40m arrival from Bundesliga winners Bayer Leverkusen came just hours after Alexander-Arnold’s emotional departure, setting up an intriguing battle with Conor Bradley for the starting right-back spot. The pacy defender, who can also play as a winger, brings a trophy-laden pedigree having won league titles in Scotland and Germany.

“I grew up in Manchester watching the Premier League, so this is a dream come true,” said the Amsterdam-born defender, who spent nine years in Manchester City’s academy before making his professional breakthrough at Celtic. “To go from watching Liverpool to playing for them? It’s crazy when I think about it.”

The flying full-back revealed how new manager Slot’s personal touch convinced him to choose Anfield: “The boss explained exactly how I can help the team and said he really believes in me. That gives you extra motivation as a player.”

Frimpong’s arrival signals a new era for Liverpool’s defense following Alexander-Arnold’s departure after 219 appearances. With his blistering pace and attacking instincts, the Dutch international offers Slot a different dimension – having contributed 14 goals and 12 assists in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga campaign last season.

“Winning at Leverkusen was special, but now I’m ready for this new challenge,” Frimpong added. “Liverpool wins trophies for a reason – and I’m here to help continue that.” The confident new recruit will get his first chance to impress Liverpool fans when the squad returns for pre-season training next week.
