Tottenham Collapse After Dominant Display as Late Drama Hands Parisians Dramatic Shootout Win
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique admitted his side’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Tottenham felt “like a miracle” after an astonishing late comeback saw the French champions snatch glory from the jaws of defeat.
Spurs in Control Before Late Meltdown
Tottenham looked destined for victory after first-half dominance, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven putting them 2-0 up. But PSG, sluggish for much of the match, staged a stunning late revival—substitute Lee Kang-in sparked hope with an 85th-minute strike before Gonçalo Ramos broke Spurs’ hearts with a last-gasp header in stoppage time.
Even in the penalty shootout, Tottenham seemed to have the upper hand, leading 2-0 after Vitinha’s miss. Yet the tide turned when Van de Ven’s weak effort was saved, and Mathys Tel blazed over, allowing Nuno Mendes to seal a dramatic 5-4 shootout win for PSG.
Enrique: “Tottenham Deserved the Win”
Despite the triumph, Enrique was remarkably honest in his assessment, telling TNT Sports: “Do you think we deserved that? For 80 minutes, we didn’t.”
He praised Spurs’ sharpness, admitting: “They played a great match. We’d only trained for six days; they’d had six weeks. Sometimes football is unfair—we were lucky.”
Yet he also credited his players’ never-say-die attitude: “They believed until the end, just like our fans. Football is unpredictable, and tonight, fortune favored us.”
Frank Proud Despite Heartbreak
Tottenham’s new boss, Thomas Frank, called the shootout “a flip of a coin” but took pride in his team’s performance, describing their first half as “almost perfect.”
“There are so many positives,” he said. “The players, the club, the fans—they should all be proud.”
But for PSG, it was another trophy in a stellar year, even if their manager could hardly believe it. “A miracle?” Enrique mused. “It certainly felt like one.”
