I’ve Been the Most Disrespected Artiste in Nigeria – Davido Opens Up on Career Struggles

Afrobeats Star Reveals Constant Online Trolls, Advises Signees to Ignore Negativity

Afrobeats sensation Davido has made a startling revelation about his career, claiming he holds the unfortunate title of Nigeria’s “most bashed and disrespected” artiste in history.

The Grammy-nominated singer opened up about the relentless criticism he faces, admitting that even his record label signees are affected by the harsh comments directed at them online. Despite the negativity, Davido said he constantly advises his team to avoid engaging with trolls.

Speaking candidly about his experiences, the “Unavailable” hitmaker pointed to himself as a prime example of an artist who faces constant backlash.

“I think in the history of Nigeria, I am the most dragged and disrespected artiste,” he said. “In Nigeria, if you’re the son of a successful man, you’re going to get it.”

Davido, whose father is billionaire businessman Adedeji Adeleke, has often been the target of online criticism, with detractors attributing his success to his family’s wealth rather than his talent. Despite the noise, the DMW boss has remained one of Afrobeats’ biggest global stars, with hit collaborations and sold-out shows worldwide.

His advice to his signees? “Stop reading the comments.”

The revelation has sparked reactions from fans, with many rallying behind the singer while others debate whether he truly has faced more criticism than other Nigerian stars. One thing is clear—Davido isn’t letting the trolls slow him down.
