Jadon Sancho Sparks Controversy: Kisses Dortmund Badge Despite Manchester United Ties

England International Returns to Borussia Dortmund on Loan Amidst Fan Backlash

Manchester United fans are expressing their discontent with Jadon Sancho after the winger, currently on loan to Borussia Dortmund, was caught kissing the Dortmund badge at the training complex. The 23-year-old, who rejoined Dortmund for the remainder of the season following a fallout with United manager Erik ten Hag, has not played since August and is determined to revive his career with his former club.

Sancho’s return to Dortmund, where he played from 2017 to 2021 before his £72 million transfer to Old Trafford, was considered the best option for the England international. In his initial stint with Dortmund, Sancho secured the DFB-Pokal, and he now aspires to aid them in qualifying for the Champions League this season. However, Edin Terzic’s side currently stands fifth in the Bundesliga, six points behind RB Leipzig.

Expressing his anticipation, Sancho stated on Dortmund’s official website, “When I walked into the dressing room today, it felt like a homecoming. I know the club inside out. I can’t wait to see my teammates again, to get out on the pitch, play with a smile on my face, set up goals, score goals, and help BVB qualify for the Champions League.”

Sancho’s actions in the dressing room, particularly kissing the Dortmund badge while still being a Manchester United player, have stirred controversy among fans. The first player he embraced upon entering the room was captain Marco Reus, signaling a warm welcome from the team.

The winger is expected to join Dortmund’s mid-season training camp in Marbella and might make his second debut for the club in the upcoming game against Darmstadt. Dortmund will cover the majority of Sancho’s wages during his loan spell.

Sebastian Kehl, Dortmund’s sporting director, expressed optimism about Sancho’s return, stating, “Jadon is an absolute difference player, and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon. He knows this city, Signal Iduna Park, our fans, and our club. Even though he hasn’t played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us, get into top form, and use his qualities to help us achieve our goals for the season.”
