Manchester United’s Negotiations with Dortmund Stall as Loan Agreement Faces Hurdles
Jadon Sancho’s anticipated return to Borussia Dortmund on a six-month loan from Manchester United has encountered delays, raising questions about the inclusion of a seemingly “impossible” clause in the deal.
Originally expected to join the Bundesliga side in Marbella on Friday, the 23-year-old England international’s move is now postponed until the weekend as negotiations between Manchester United and Dortmund have not progressed as swiftly as initially hoped.
Despite the delay, there is a strong belief that Sancho will eventually make the switch from Manchester United to Dortmund. However, the stumbling block appears to be a purchase option in the loan agreement, a detail Dortmund is reluctant to accept due to financial constraints.
Sky Sports Germany reports that a final agreement between the two clubs has not been reached, with Florian Plettenberg indicating that Dortmund is unwilling to secure an option to buy Sancho. Plettenberg stated, “It’s impossible. That’s confirmed.”
The reported hurdle revolves around the financial feasibility of including a purchase option, as Dortmund is not prepared to commit to such an arrangement. The situation is reminiscent of previous negotiations involving Manchester United, but there is confidence that the deal will eventually proceed without any major setbacks.
One key factor contributing to the complication is Sancho’s substantial wages at Manchester United, reportedly close to €350,000 (£300,000) per week. During the loan period, Borussia Dortmund is expected to subsidize the majority of these wages. Additionally, Manchester United is likely to demand a significant transfer fee in the summer for a player still under contract until June 2026.
Despite the challenges, there is optimism that the deal will find a positive resolution, allowing Jadon Sancho to make his much-anticipated return to Borussia Dortmund by the end of the season. The coming days will be crucial in determining the final outcome of this high-profile transfer.
