Fenerbahce coach disrupts Super Lig match with bizarre on-field protest over disallowed goal
Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho made headlines again on Sunday, not just for his team’s 2-0 win against Antalyaspor, but for his unusual protest after a disallowed goal. Despite securing the victory, Mourinho was far from pleased with the officiating, particularly after Edin Dzeko’s goal was ruled offside in the 76th minute.
With his team already leading 1-0 thanks to Dusan Tadic’s earlier goal, Mourinho’s frustration boiled over. In a bizarre move, he grabbed a laptop and placed it in front of a television camera, seemingly to demonstrate how his team had been wronged by the referees.
The image he displayed, however, showed nothing of note, as Antalyaspor was in possession of the ball in a harmless area of the pitch.
Referee Cihan Aydin was unimpressed by Mourinho’s antics, and promptly booked the Portuguese manager, adding another strange incident to Mourinho’s long list of controversial touchline moments. Just three minutes after the caution, Fenerbahce doubled their lead to secure the victory, with the team remaining hot on the heels of Galatasaray at the top of the Turkish Super Lig table.
Mourinho’s theatrical protest followed a recent fine for missing a press conference, proving that even in the later stages of his managerial career, he continues to generate chaos on and off the field.
