Jude Bellingham Faces Criticism Amid Goal Drought for Real Madrid

The English star struggles to find the back of the net as Real Madrid adapts to new signing Kylian Mbappé.

Jude Bellingham has come under fire from the Spanish press after failing to score in his last nine appearances for Real Madrid. The England international, who had an explosive debut season with the club, has faced a dry spell that has not gone unnoticed, particularly as Madrid adjusts to integrating Kylian Mbappé into their attack.

During Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Celta Vigo, manager Carlo Ancelotti experimented with a 3-4-2-1 formation, positioning Bellingham and Vinicius Junior on either side of Mbappé. Mbappé opened the scoring with a stunning long-range strike in the 20th minute, marking his sixth goal in nine La Liga matches. However, Bellingham’s frustration grew as the match wore on, especially after a heated exchange with Vinicius Jr., who opted to shoot rather than pass to an unmarked Bellingham at the back post.

Real Madrid eventually secured the win thanks to Vinicius’ second-half goal, keeping them three points behind league leaders Barcelona ahead of next Sunday’s highly anticipated El Clasico. Despite the win, Bellingham’s lack of goals remains a talking point. Spanish sports outlet Marca noted Bellingham’s struggles, writing: “The image of Madrid’s number 5 celebrating goals has vanished since May 14. He is berating himself over the goals that aren’t coming.”

Bellingham will have a chance to end his goal drought when Real Madrid faces his former club, Borussia Dortmund, in the Champions League this week. Despite the pressure, manager Carlo Ancelotti remains unconcerned about the midfielder’s dip in form.

“We are satisfied with Bellingham’s work,” Ancelotti said in a pre-match press conference. “He competes, fights, and makes sacrifices. The goals may not be there, but his role remains vital to the team.”

With El Clasico looming and the spotlight on Bellingham, the midfielder will be hoping to rediscover his goal-scoring touch soon.
