Serbian striker benched for three consecutive games as Juve consider a potential sale to cut costs.
Juventus are reportedly looking to move Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic out of the club during the January transfer window after benching him for the third straight game.
Vlahovic, 24, was left out of the starting lineup in recent matches against Atalanta, AC Milan, and Napoli. Juve manager Thiago Motta has instead experimented with alternative attacking options, including Nico Gonzalez in a false 9 role and new loan signing Randal Kolo Muani, who scored on his debut against Napoli in a 2-1 defeat.
Italian media outlets are interpreting these moves as clear signals that Juventus are preparing to part ways with Vlahovic. The club appears keen to offload the striker, citing financial and performance-related reasons.
The Bianconeri are open to an outright sale or a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Vlahovic, who joined Juventus from Fiorentina in January 2022 for €80 million, remains the highest-paid player in Serie A, earning €12 million annually. However, the club’s financial restructuring includes a push to lower its wage ceiling, making his salary increasingly untenable.
Motta praised Vlahovic’s professionalism despite his reduced role, saying, “Vlahovic reacted very well. He is a very positive leader in this squad. He knows he can be an important option off the bench, offering us different qualities to elevate our game when needed.”
Vlahovic’s contract runs until 2026, but renewal talks have stalled, increasing the likelihood of a sale in 2025 to avoid losing him for free. Arsenal has emerged as a leading contender for his signature, with manager Mikel Arteta reportedly still interested in the player after failing to secure him in 2022.
The Gunners are in need of reinforcements up front, and Vlahovic’s skill set could fill that gap. Whether Juventus and Arsenal can finalize a deal before the January window closes remains to be seen.
As Juventus navigates financial constraints and on-pitch challenges, Vlahovic’s future in Turin appears increasingly uncertain, with Arsenal poised as a potential destination for the talented striker.
