Kane Declares Serbia Rout the “Perfect Template” for England’s New Era

The captain silences critics after a commanding 5-0 victory, urging his team to use the performance as their blueprint for the World Cup.

England captain Harry Kane has pointed to Tuesday night’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Serbia as the standard his team must meet, following a wave of criticism over their recent performances.

Despite a perfect record in their qualifying group, England’s earlier wins against smaller nations had been labeled labored and uninspiring, putting coach Thomas Tuchel’s early tactics under scrutiny. Any doubts were swiftly answered in Belgrade with a dazzling display of attacking football, featuring goals from Kane, Noni Madueke, Ezri Konsa, Marcus Rashford, and Marc Guehi.

“There’s been a lot of noise around the outside, but we’ve been happy with what we’ve been doing,” Kane told ITV after the match. He acknowledged the difficulty of breaking down defensive teams but emphasized that the test against stronger opposition like Serbia was one they were eager to pass. “We said we wanted to show what we can do, especially without the ball, with the high pressure and make it difficult for them.”

With England now on the brink of qualifying for next year’s World Cup in North America, Kane believes this performance must become the team’s blueprint. He stated that the team’s style and formation are now being “set in stone.”

“Of course, there might be a few games where we have to change a little bit depending on opposition, but we want to play our way,” Kane explained. “We want to be on the front foot and win the ball back quick… You could say today was the perfect template.”
