Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Joins PSG in €70 Million Move from Napoli

Georgian Winger Becomes First Player from His Nation to Sign with the French Champions

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has announced the signing of Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Italian club Napoli. The 23-year-old, who will don the number seven jersey, is the first Georgian player in the club’s history. According to French media, the transfer fee is reported to be €70 million ($72 million), excluding potential bonuses.

A Farewell to Napoli

Kvaratskhelia’s move comes a day after he shared an emotional goodbye video to Napoli fans on social media. “It’s hard for me, but it’s time to say goodbye,” he said, thanking supporters for their unwavering loyalty.

The winger expressed his excitement in an interview on PSG’s website. “It’s an honor to wear the PSG shirt. Playing for one of the world’s biggest teams has always been a dream. I’m very happy, and we’ll fight together to achieve our goals.”

A Star on the Rise

Kvaratskhelia joined Napoli in 2022 from Dinamo Batumi in Georgia for a modest fee, quickly proving his worth. He played a pivotal role in Napoli’s 2023 Serie A title win and was named the league’s best player that season. Over his tenure, he scored 30 goals and delivered 29 assists in 107 appearances across all competitions.

At PSG, he has signed a contract until 2029 and is expected to compete with France international Bradley Barcola for the left-wing position under coach Luis Enrique.

Immediate Impact and Future Goals

Kvaratskhelia is eligible to make his Ligue 1 debut against Lens on Saturday, as PSG look to extend their lead over second-place Marseille. However, he won’t be part of PSG’s Champions League squad until the knockout phase, should the team qualify. PSG currently sits just outside the playoff spots and faces a crucial group stage match against Manchester City next Wednesday.

“The project here convinced me,” Kvaratskhelia said of his decision to join PSG. “I understand the club’s ambitions and how they support players. It aligns perfectly with who I am as a footballer.”

A New Era for PSG

Kvaratskhelia’s signing comes as PSG navigates life without Kylian Mbappé, who left for Real Madrid last season. The addition of the Georgian star adds a fresh dynamic to the team as they aim to reclaim dominance in Europe.

Meanwhile, reports suggest PSG’s efforts to offload Randal Kolo Muani on loan to Juventus have stalled. The club has already reached the cap of six loaned-out players, putting the transfer on hold.

As Kvaratskhelia joins PSG, the club hopes his arrival will inject creativity and energy into their pursuit of both domestic and European glory.
