Klopp in ‘contact’ with star as he ‘dreams’ of Liverpool signing

Jurgen Klopp is apparently in touch with Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe with the Liverpool boss desperate to take him to Anfield, according to reports.

Mbappe could be on his way out of France in the next year after reportedly telling PSG he wants to leave.

That’s sent the footballing world into a frenzy as Real Madrid, Liverpool and Juventus are all linked with the player.

In November, a report in Spanish publication Sport said that Klopp ‘wants to coach’ Mbappe and that the Reds were ‘ready to fight’ Real Madrid to land the Frenchman.

The report said at the time that Klopp had a ‘direct line’ of communication with the PSG forward.

And now Sport (via Sport Witness) has an update on Mbappe’s situation and describe Liverpool boss Klopp as a ‘rival’ to Real Madrid for his signature.

Klopp ‘dreams’ of signing Mbappe with the German boss desperate to have him ‘at his command at Liverpool’, with the report adding that he ‘maintains contact’ with the France international.

It is also understood that new PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino could now become Real Madrid’s biggest ‘enemy’ in any attempt to sign Mbappe.

The Ligue 1 club hope that the appointment of Pochettino can become a ‘differential factor’ in their attempts to keep Mbappe at the club.

The latest rumour comes three days after L’Equipe claimed that Liverpool have wanted Mbappe for ‘many years’.

Meanwhile, Klopp was adamant striker Sadio Mane should have been awarded a clear penalty by referee Andre Marriner after his Liverpool side fell to a 1-0 Premier League defeat at Southampton on Monday night.

Klopp said: “I turned around, we had a really good view of it. It looked like a clear penalty. I turned to the fourth official, he said ‘we checked already, no penalty’. That’s the 100 per cent truth. They checked it already.

“We had the situation last year against Leicester with the penalty, and people say ‘Sadio Mane goes down too easily’.

“If this boy went down easy, we could have had a penalty in this game and a stonewall penalty in the last game. But what Andre Marriner did with Sadio Mane tonight, I’m not sure that’s OK, to be honest.”
