Teenager Scores and Assists in 2-0 Win Over FCSB
Manchester United booked their place in the UEFA Europa League Last 16 with a commanding 2-0 victory over FCSB, thanks to a standout performance from 19-year-old Kobbie Mainoo. The young midfielder, making his first start in an advanced role under Ruben Amorim, delivered a goal and an assist to help his side finish the league phase unbeaten.
United struggled to break through in the first half but found their rhythm after the interval, following the introductions of Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo. Their added pace and creativity turned the tide, and United took the lead on the hour mark when Mainoo set up Diogo Dalot for a simple tap-in, moments after Bruno Fernandes had struck the crossbar.
Just eight minutes later, Mainoo found himself in the right place at the right time, finishing off a clever cut-back from Garnacho to double United’s advantage and put the game beyond reach.
Unbeaten United March On
With the win, Manchester United secured third place in the Europa League league phase, finishing with five wins and three draws—the only team in the competition to remain unbeaten.
FCSB, who began the night in the top eight, saw their hopes of automatic qualification dashed as they dropped to 11th place on goal difference. Now, they face a two-legged play-off to keep their European hopes alive.
For manager Ruben Amorim, avoiding the play-offs was a priority. He had emphasized the need for more time on the training ground to refine his tactical approach, and this victory ensures his team can now focus on their domestic ambitions. Next up, they face Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, looking to build on this momentum.
