Korede Bello Opens Up About Quitting Smoking

Singer Credits Environment and Father’s Advice for Kicking the Habit

Nigerian singer Korede Bello, famous for his hit song “God Win,” recently shared his journey of quitting smoking. Speaking on the “Say My Piece” podcast, hosted by actress Lolo1, Bello revealed that his environment and early exposure to smoking influenced his decision to start the habit.

Growing up, Bello often saw his father smoking, which led him to try it himself. “I tried weed before, but it’s not my thing,” he said. “Very early on in my life, I mean not in my life like when I was a child, but it was just something that people did around me.”

Bello explained that his father, despite being a smoker, would often caution him against smoking. “My dad used to smoke a lot of cigarettes and as a child, he used to send me to get him cigarettes,” Bello recalled. “He used to cough a lot, so I’d ask him, ‘Daddy, why are you coughing?’ and he’d tell me, ‘It’s because of the cigarette. So if you don’t wanna cough like me, don’t smoke.’”

This advice, along with his own realization that smoking wasn’t for him, motivated Bello to quit. He acknowledged his addictive personality and how it could turn a pleasurable activity into a harmful addiction.

Bello credits his father’s warnings and his own personal experiences for shaping his perspective on smoking, ultimately leading him to give up the habit for good.
