PSG, Liverpool, and Manchester United Lead the Race for the Georgian Star
The January transfer window is heating up as Napoli’s star forward, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, has reportedly asked to leave the club, according to head coach Antonio Conte. The revelation comes as a shock, with the 23-year-old winger widely regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents since his arrival at Napoli in 2022.
Kvaratskhelia has been instrumental for the Serie A leaders, scoring 28 goals in 85 league appearances. Despite his contributions, the Georgian international remains on the modest terms of his original €13.3 million transfer deal, earning a reported €1 million per year. With his contract running until 2027, Napoli has placed a hefty €80 million price tag on their prized asset.
Conte Confirms Departure Request
Speaking on Saturday, Conte expressed his disappointment at Kvaratskhelia’s decision:
“He asked the club to be sold. I spoke to the player, and he confirmed this to me. It was a bolt from the blue. I tried to convince him of the project’s vision last summer, but evidently, I didn’t succeed. We are losing an important player.”
Conte further stated that he would not force Kvaratskhelia to stay against his will:
“We haven’t thought about how to replace him yet. The priority now is tomorrow’s match against Verona. If he stays, he must know it’s a situation I couldn’t resolve. The decision now rests with the player and the club.”
Clubs Circle as PSG Lead the Race
Kvaratskhelia’s reluctance to extend his contract has attracted significant interest from top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Manchester United. PSG is believed to be leading the race, but Liverpool has reportedly asked to be kept informed of developments.
Manchester United is also considering an approach, with speculation of a potential swap deal involving Marcus Rashford. Meanwhile, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Newcastle United are monitoring the situation, though it remains uncertain whether any club will meet Napoli’s €80 million valuation this month.
Napoli’s Financial Strategy
Napoli’s firm stance on Kvaratskhelia’s price tag reflects lessons learned from previous situations, including that of Victor Osimhen. The club is keen to avoid letting the winger’s value depreciate as his contract winds down.
As the January transfer window progresses, the future of “Kvaradona,” as he is affectionately nicknamed by fans, remains one of the most captivating stories. Whether Napoli can hold onto their star or orchestrate a lucrative transfer deal will shape the rest of their season—and potentially, European football’s landscape.
