Kylian Mbappe, the Real Madrid forward, has been accused of rape and sexual harassment at a Swedish hotel, according to local media reports. The incident allegedly occurred last Thursday during Mbappe’s visit to Stockholm with friends. Swedish newspaper Expressen claims that Mbappe is now under police investigation following the accusations.
Earlier today, Mbappe dismissed the report as “fake news” in a post on X, denying any involvement in the alleged incident.
The footballer had shared an article about the rape claim, writing: “Fake News! It’s becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance,” referring to his ongoing legal battle with his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), over £46 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.
The alleged rape is said to have taken place at the Bank Hotel in Stockholm, where Mbappe was staying. The footballer reportedly spent the evening dining at Chez Jolie restaurant before visiting the V nightclub, eventually returning to the hotel with his entourage. Swedish authorities are investigating the claims, and forensic experts have reportedly examined the crime scene. However, no suspects have been officially named yet.
The timing of the allegations comes just before a crucial hearing in Mbappe’s case against PSG, with the footballer seeking unpaid bonuses from his time at the club. PSG has refused to pay the £46 million despite a ruling from France’s professional football governing body, LFP, ordering the payment.
Mbappe has faced recent criticism in France for skipping national team duties during the Nations League matches while playing for Real Madrid. Despite a hamstring injury, the forward played in his club’s Champions League match and a domestic fixture last weekend. France coach Didier Deschamps omitted him from the squad, stating that Mbappe lacked sufficient preparation.
Mbappe, a World Cup winner and France’s national team captain, is one of the sport’s biggest stars, having scored 48 goals in 86 appearances for his country. The ongoing investigation in Sweden and the legal battle with PSG have placed the 25-year-old in the spotlight both on and off the field.
