Kylian Mbappé
The French star addresses accusations with composure and emphasizes his commitment to the sport.
Kylian Mbappé, the celebrated French footballer, has once again firmly dismissed allegations of rape leveled against him. The accusations, which surfaced in October, claimed that Mbappé sexually assaulted a woman during a visit to Stockholm. Speaking in a recent interview with French outlet Clique, Mbappé reiterated his innocence and stated he remains unshaken by the claims.
“I was surprised. These are things that happen that you don’t see coming,” Mbappé said, addressing the rumors. “I didn’t receive anything, no summons. I read the same thing as everyone else. The Swedish government didn’t say anything. I’m not concerned.”
The 25-year-old revealed that the allegations had no bearing on his mental state, as he never felt implicated. “There’s a lot of noise, but I’ve always had the same intention, which is to concentrate on my job and see how it ends. If justice summons me, I will simply go.”
The accusations first came to light during what Mbappé described as a low-key break from his football schedule, which was misconstrued by media reports. “It wasn’t even a night out. I had five days off… There were lots of people ready to welcome me for the departure, lots of journalists.”
Mbappé also spoke about his current hiatus from the French national team, last seen representing Les Bleus during Euro 2024. France’s semi-final exit against Spain was followed by a period of intense scrutiny. “I fully respect [coach Didier Deschamps’] decision,” Mbappé remarked. “I wanted to stay [with the team], but it was exhausting.”
Since joining Real Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, Mbappé has been in top form, scoring 11 goals in 21 appearances for Los Blancos. His latest performance saw him find the net against Girona, further cementing his status as one of the world’s premier football talents.
Despite the legal and personal challenges, Mbappé continues to prioritize his career, stating that his focus remains on excelling at the highest levels of the sport.
