Kylian Mbappe was reportedly left behind by the Paris Saint-Germain team bus following their 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semifinal first leg on Wednesday night.
The match saw Niclas Fullkrug scoring the lone goal at Signal Iduna Park, giving Dortmund a crucial advantage in the tie. While Mbappe’s impact was limited by Dortmund’s solid defense, Jadon Sancho’s stellar performance for BVB drew widespread praise.
Despite hitting the post in the second half, Mbappe struggled to make a significant impact in the game, reflecting his frustration on the field. However, his troubles didn’t end with the final whistle.
Unlike his teammates who boarded the team bus back to the airport, Mbappe had to stay behind for random drug testing, as reported by Le Parisien. Following UEFA’s protocol, Mbappe had to complete the mandatory test before rejoining his teammates at the airport via private transport.
Despite the setback, PSG remains hopeful going into the second leg at the Parc des Princes next week, with Mbappe’s potential to turn the tie around. As he prepares to leave PSG as a free agent in the summer, the 25-year-old has extra motivation to deliver a standout performance in the crucial clash.
Mbappe’s quest for Champions League glory also comes with a personal milestone, as he aims to equal Thierry Henry’s tally of 50 goals in the competition, currently just two goals away. With Thomas Muller’s record of 53 goals within reach, Mbappe has the opportunity to cement his legacy as one of Europe’s elite goal-scorers in the Champions League.
