French superstar shines in debut season, closing in on legendary milestones set by Ronaldo and Zamorano.
Kylian Mbappe is making waves in his debut season at Real Madrid, and the French forward is now just three goals away from eclipsing a Cristiano Ronaldo record. With 31 goals already to his name this campaign, Mbappe is on the verge of surpassing Ronaldo’s tally of 33 goals in his first season with the Spanish giants, a feat achieved by the Portuguese icon back in 2009-2010.
Mbappe, who joined Real Madrid at the start of the 2024-25 season, has been in scintillating form, netting 20 times in La Liga alone—the most by a Real Madrid player in their debut season since Ronaldo’s 26-goal haul. The 26-year-old’s prolific scoring has also seen him surpass Brazilian legend Ronaldo, who scored 30 goals in his first season with the club in 2002-03.
The Frenchman’s journey to this point hasn’t been without challenges. Initially, Mbappe struggled to adapt to Real Madrid’s system and found himself adjusting to playing alongside Vinicius Junior, who occupies his preferred right-wing position. However, the former Paris Saint-Germain star has since found his rhythm, becoming a key figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
With at least 12 matches remaining this season, Mbappe is not only poised to break Ronaldo’s record but also has a realistic chance of surpassing Chilean legend Ivan Zamorano, who holds the record for the most goals in a debut season at Real Madrid with 37 goals in 1992-93.
Despite his remarkable achievements, Mbappe remains humble. In a recent interview, he downplayed comparisons to legends like Ronaldo and Brazilian Ronaldo, emphasizing that his focus is on team success. “If I score more goals than Ronaldo and Cristiano, it doesn’t mean that I am better, just that my first season is better. Scoring goals is important, but it is even more so if we win La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey,” Mbappe said after Real Madrid’s victory over Villarreal.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Mbappe as he continues his quest to etch his name into Real Madrid’s storied history. Whether he breaks Zamorano’s record or not, his debut campaign has already cemented his status as one of the world’s most lethal forwards. For Real Madrid fans, the future looks brighter than ever with Mbappe leading the charge.
