Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal continued his astonishing rise on Wednesday night, breaking yet another of Kylian Mbappe’s records during a crucial Champions League victory over Copenhagen.
The 18-year-old was instrumental in the win, providing both a goal and an assist to ensure Barcelona secured a top-eight finish and automatic qualification for the last 16. In the process, Yamal became the youngest player in Champions League history to reach eight goals in the competition, at 18 years and 199 days, surpassing the previous mark set by Mbappe.
This is not the first time the Barcelona prodigy has rewritten the record books at the French superstar’s expense.
Last season, he became the youngest-ever scorer in a Champions League semifinal. His performance against Copenhagen also marked the third time he has both scored and assisted in a single Champions League match—a feat he now shares with Mbappe.
