The Parisians silence the Montjuïc crowd with a 90th-minute winner, continuing their recent dominance over the Catalan giants.
Paris Saint-Germain authored a thrilling late drama on Wednesday night, overturning an early deficit to snatch a 2-1 victory from FC Barcelona at a stunned Montjuïc Stadium. Just as the match seemed destined for a draw, a last-gasp goal sealed an impressive road win for the French side.
The home fans were in full voice early on as Ferran Torres ignited the crowd, firing Barcelona into the lead in the 19th minute. However, PSG showed their resilience before the halftime whistle. Youngster Senny Mayulu, set up by a clever pass from Nuno Mendes, coolly finished in the 38th minute to level the score and swing the momentum.
The second half was a tense, back-and-forth affair, with both sides searching for a winner. Just when it looked like the points would be shared, Achraf Hakimi found Gonçalo Ramos in the 90th minute, and the Portuguese striker delivered the decisive blow, sending the traveling PSG supporters into a frenzy.
This victory continues a satisfying trend for PSG manager Luis Enrique against his former club. After his team eliminated Barcelona from the Champions League just last year, he has now masterminded another memorable win against the Catalan side.
Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, an elated Enrique praised his team’s character. “I have to say, we played a very good match,” Enrique stated. “The start was tough because they had the ball, and as always against a team like Barcelona, they have so many quality players. The first 20 minutes were difficult, and we made some mistakes, but then we scored the first goal, gained confidence, and went into halftime with the draw.”
He added, “In the second half, we were the better side. We created a lot of chances, improved our performance, and fully deserved the win. I’m very happy because, regardless of the players or the problems, we showed up along with our supporters. It’s an important victory, because facing Barça is never easy.”
