Reds Lead Race for Frankfurt Forward While Isak Remains a Complex but Tempting Target
Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Reds are now pushing forward in negotiations.
Despite already securing five summer signings—including high-profile arrivals Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong—Arne Slot’s side remains keen to strengthen further, particularly up front. With Darwin Núñez expected to depart, Liverpool have identified both Ekitike and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak as key targets.
However, Romano clarified that while Newcastle had previously shown interest in Ekitike, their latest bid was rejected earlier this week, and no fresh offer has been made. Instead, Liverpool have emerged as the frontrunners, engaging in active talks with Frankfurt.
Isak Still in the Picture—But Newcastle Hold Firm
Meanwhile, the Reds have not abandoned their interest in Isak, though prising him away from St James’ Park will be a major challenge. Newcastle have repeatedly insisted their star striker is not for sale after securing Champions League football. Yet, with Liverpool reportedly prepared to table a staggering £120m bid, the Magpies’ resolve could be tested.
Romano added that Isak himself is keeping his options open. While aware of Newcastle’s desire to keep him—and even offer an improved contract—the Swedish forward is said to be intrigued by Liverpool’s ambitious project and has not ruled out a move.
What Happens Next?
With Ekitike’s deal progressing and Isak’s situation fluid, Liverpool could soon add another attacking weapon to Slot’s revamped squad. But as negotiations unfold, one thing is clear: the Reds are determined to land a top-tier striker before the window closes. Will it be Ekitike, Isak, or even both? The coming days could provide answers.
