Liverpool are on the brink of signing Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike in a deal that could eventually surpass €95 million, as the club moves swiftly to reinforce its attack following the devastating loss of Diogo Jota.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Reds have reached the “outline of an agreement” with Frankfurt after improving their initial bid to around €90 million. The 21-year-old Frenchman, once a childhood Manchester United fan, has already accepted personal terms and is eager to make the switch to Anfield.

The move comes amid a summer of upheaval for Liverpool, who had originally planned to offload Darwin Núñez before entering the market for a new striker. However, Jota’s tragic passing—along with Núñez’s inconsistent form—has accelerated their search for a clinical No. 9.

Liverpool first tested Newcastle’s resolve with an approach for Alexander Isak, but after being rebuffed, they turned their attention to Ekitike. Frankfurt, who have been firm on their €100 million valuation, are optimistic the final fee will eclipse the €95 million they received from PSG for Randal Kolo Muani last year.
