Liverpool given further hope with latest Van Dijk update

Liverpool centre-half Virgil van Dijk is showing ‘determination and hard work’ in his fight to return from injury.

Van Dijk has been sidelined since injuring his knee in a collision with Jordan Pickford during October’s Merseyside derby draw.

Many early prognoses predicted Van Dijk to miss the rest of the season as a conservative estimate but the Dutchman is battling to feature again for the Reds this season.

He offered hope to supporters that he could eventually alleviate their current issues in the centre of defence by releasing a video on Instagram of his progress.

The post was accompanied with a caption of ‘step by step’ just seven weeks after he underwent surgery on the injured knee.

Fellow Dutchman Clarence Seedorf has thrown further weight behind the belief that Van Dijk could be ahead of his recovery schedule with his own social media post on Wednesday.

‘I joined the captain Virgil van Dijk for some training today!’ he said.

‘Happy to see his determination and hard work to be back on the pitch stronger than before!

‘In these type of journeys, patience and focus are key to succeed. Keep it up my brother!’

Liverpool have largely kept their counsel on Van Dijk but Klopp did make an exception to offer an update in late November.

“His knee doesn’t look good, to be honest,” he said. “It doesn’t look like a knee should look – but it looks good for a knee with that surgery and the time he had since the surgery.

“So, yes, of course we are in contact and he’s doing well, that’s true.”

But the recent updates from both the player himself and now Seedorf suggest Van Dijk is in a good position with regards to his comeback.

With that said, Liverpool should probably still go for a centre-half in January.
