Liverpool are reportedly in talks with AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, who could be available on a free transfer this summer.
Calhanoglu has enjoyed an excellent season under Stefano Pioli, notching nine goals and 12 assists.
But he is yet to agree terms on a new deal with the Serie A club, with his contract expiring at the end of June, and potential suitors are circling.
Liverpool will be looking for a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum this summer, following the Dutch international’s decision to leave Anfield.
Wijnaldum had to “fight back tears” after his final game for Liverpool.
He said: “It’s really emotional for me right now, I’m very happy that we managed to get the third place and secure Champions League football for the club next season.
“On the other hand I’m fighting back the tears, the people in Liverpool have showed me so much love in the last five years. It’s very hard to say goodbye.
“The fans singing my name, the prizes we won, I will never forget the amazing things we achieved with this fantastic club. We shared unforgettable moments together, no one can ever take that from us.
“I would have loved to remain a Liverpool player for many more years, but unfortunately things went different. I have to start a new adventure.”
While Calhanoglu plays in a similar position to Wijnaldum, he’s a more creative influence than his counterpart.
The Turkish international has hit double figures for goal contributions in each of his four seasons with Milan following his £21million move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017.
Journalist Christian Falk has spoken of Manchester United’s interest in Calhanoglu, but admits the Red Devils are yet to make a ‘concrete offer’.
TRUE ✅ There is no concret offer for Hakan Calhanoglu (27) of @ManUtd at the Moment. The English were interested last Summer for 2021. Calhanoglu has now still the option to sign at @acmilan a new contruct or go to a club in Arabia which offers the double the salary
