Reds Ready to Trigger Leverkusen Star’s Release Clause as Real Madrid Close In on Trent
Liverpool appear to have moved quickly to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Bayer Leverkusen’s flying right-back Jeremie Frimpong lined up as his successor—and a potential double raid could also bring teammate Florian Wirtz to Anfield.
With Alexander-Arnold reportedly nearing a blockbuster move to Real Madrid, the Reds have identified Frimpong as their top target. The Dutch defender, who has a release clause in his Leverkusen contract, is expected to make the switch, leaving him with one key decision—choosing his shirt number.
According to The Mirror, the No. 30 jersey—last worn by Spaniard Suso over a decade ago—could be Frimpong’s new digit. Suso only managed 21 appearances in that number before leaving for AC Milan, meaning the Dutchman would have big boots to fill in a fresh sense.
But Frimpong might not be the only Leverkusen star heading to Merseyside. Liverpool are also keen on German playmaker Florian Wirtz, though they face stiff competition from Manchester City, who view him as a long-term successor to Kevin De Bruyne.
If both deals materialize, it would mark a major coup for the Reds, injecting youth and Bundesliga-winning pedigree into their squad ahead of a new era under Arne Slot. For now, all eyes are on Frimpong—who could soon be trading Leverkusen’s red and black for Liverpool’s famous red.
