Dutch wing-back arrives after stellar Bundesliga campaign, with Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez also on Reds’ radar
Liverpool have officially welcomed Bayer Leverkusen’s dynamic defender Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield after activating his €35 million (£29.5m) release clause. The 24-year-old Dutch international has signed a five-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2030, and is expected to step into the starting right-back role following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure to Real Madrid.
Frimpong, one of Europe’s most explosive wing-backs, enjoyed a sensational spell at Leverkusen, contributing to over 60 goals in 190 appearances. His blistering pace, versatility, and attacking flair were instrumental in Xabi Alonso’s side securing a historic Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double last season. Now, he’s set to bring that same energy to Liverpool, where he’ll battle Conor Bradley for the starting spot while also offering cover for Mohamed Salah on the right wing.
Having honed his skills in Manchester City’s academy before flourishing at Celtic and Leverkusen, Frimpong arrives with a reputation as a relentless, modern full-back—a perfect fit for Arne Slot’s high-intensity system. His market value, estimated at €55m, makes this deal a potential steal for the Reds.
But Liverpool aren’t stopping there. Reports indicate they’re closing in on a club-record €130m move for Frimpong’s Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz, while Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez is also in talks to provide competition for Andy Robertson at left-back.
With Frimpong’s signing now confirmed, the Anfield faithful have plenty to be excited about as Slot’s revolution takes shape. The new era starts now.
