Liverpool Target PSG’s Vitinha in Potential €130 Million Midfield Revamp

The Portuguese maestro, hailed for “playing a different sport,” is on the Reds’ shortlist as they scout for a January midfield addition.

Liverpool are setting their sights high as they plot a January midfield reinforcement, with Paris Saint-Germain star Vitinha emerging as a prime target. The Reds’ scouting department has identified the Portuguese international as one of Europe’s most technically gifted players, believing his style would be a perfect fit for manager Arne Slot’s system.

The interest comes after a year of remarkable ascent for the 25-year-old. After playing an integral role in PSG’s treble-winning campaign, Vitinha finished a stunning third in the most recent Ballon d’Or standings, cementing his status among the world’s elite.

According to caughtoffside, Liverpool are ‘keeping a close eye’ on the midfielder, captivated by his ability to dictate the tempo of a game and his incisive ball-carrying. His qualities were on full display last March at Anfield, where he delivered a masterclass in composure during PSG’s penalty shoot-out victory, completing 103 passes and earning rave reviews.

French legend Thierry Henry was left in awe, stating on TNT Sports, “This guy, Vitinha, plays a different sport. You know when you can control the tempo and rhythm of a game, that has to count for something.”

However, prying him away from the French capital will be a monumental challenge. PSG are reluctant to sell a player so central to their project, and it is believed only a ‘staggering’ offer of around €130 million (£114m) could force them to the negotiating table. Liverpool would also face competition, with clubs like Arsenal and Juventus also monitoring the situation.

For his part, Vitinha has already experienced the Anfield atmosphere firsthand and came away impressed. After his triumphant performance there, he beamed, “It’s not easy to play on this pitch… They are truly a great team.”

Any potential move for Vitinha would likely depend on a current Liverpool midfielder departing in January, making this a complex deal. But as the club looks to add composure to its engine room, the PSG star represents a statement signing who has already proven he can dominate on the biggest stages.
