Georgian Forward Edges Closer to PSG Amid Reds’ Offensive Rebuilding Plans
Liverpool has reportedly stepped back from pursuing a deal for Napoli’s 23-year-old Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as the Serie A star inches closer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Kvaratskhelia’s Journey and Market Demand
Kvaratskhelia has experienced a rollercoaster journey since joining Napoli from Dinamo Batumi in July 2022. In his debut season, he played a pivotal role in Napoli’s Serie A title triumph, earning widespread acclaim. However, the 2023/24 season has seen inconsistency creep into his performances, with only five goals and three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions.
Despite this dip in form, the Georgian attacker remains a hot commodity in the transfer market. Several European heavyweights, including Liverpool and PSG, have expressed interest in securing his services.
Liverpool’s Changing Priorities
Liverpool’s pursuit of Kvaratskhelia aligns with their need to bolster their offensive options, particularly as uncertainty surrounds the long-term futures of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez. However, the Reds have decided against competing for the Napoli forward’s signature this winter. Reports suggest that PSG’s significant progress in negotiations has influenced Liverpool’s decision to withdraw.
PSG’s Aggressive Approach
PSG has faced its own challenges in attack following Kylian Mbappé’s departure. While Bradley Barcola has been a standout performer, the Parisian club has struggled with inconsistency in the final third. Kvaratskhelia has emerged as a prime target for PSG, who are reportedly in advanced talks with Napoli.
Napoli has set an €80 million asking price for the Georgian international, but PSG is reportedly exploring ways to lower the fee by including a player in the deal.
Confirmation of Kvaratskhelia’s Desire to Leave
Napoli manager Antonio Conte recently confirmed that Kvaratskhelia has expressed a desire to leave the club, prompting the Serie A champions to consider offers. While Liverpool initially showed interest, PSG now appears to be the frontrunner, with a January transfer looking increasingly likely.
As Kvaratskhelia’s next chapter unfolds, Liverpool fans will turn their attention to other potential targets to strengthen their squad, while PSG looks poised to welcome another marquee signing.
