Colombian winger pays tribute to fallen teammate Jota in heartfelt farewell after sealing Bundesliga switch
Liverpool, July 2025 – Luis Díaz’s Liverpool chapter has closed with an emotional €75 million transfer to Bayern Munich, as the Colombian winger bid a tearful farewell to Merseyside while honoring late teammate Diogo Jota.
The 28-year-old departed the Reds’ preseason camp in Tokyo to finalize his four-year deal with the German champions, ending a three-and-a-half year spell that saw him become a fan favorite and Premier League winner. In a moving Instagram post, Díaz reflected on his Anfield journey while paying tribute to Jota, who tragically died in a car crash earlier this month.
“Three and a half years I’ll treasure forever,” wrote the winger. “Liverpool is indeed a special team, but my heart is heavy – we lost one of ours. Diogo, I carry you with me always. YNWA.”

The transfer represents a significant profit for Liverpool, who originally signed Díaz from Porto for €45 million in January 2022. His sale ranks as the club’s third-highest outgoing transfer after Philippe Coutinho and Luis Suárez’s moves to Barcelona.
While manager Arne Slot initially resisted the sale, Bayern’s improved offer – making Díaz their third-most expensive signing ever – proved too good to refuse for a player who had made clear his desire for a new challenge. The Colombian’s departure now accelerates Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, with the Reds’ transfer war chest significantly bolstered by this summer’s sales.
Díaz leaves having scored 17 goals in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign, his electric wing play and infectious energy making him one of the Premier League’s most watchable talents. As he begins his Bundesliga adventure, the Anfield faithful will remember a player who embodied their club’s spirit until the very end.
