Major Blow for Arsenal and England as Madueke Faces Two-Month Sideline Stint

Winger’s knee injury, sustained against Man City, could see him miss up to 14 crucial matches, including the North London derby.

Arsenal and England have been dealt a significant setback after winger Noni Madueke was ruled out for approximately two months with a knee injury. The 23-year-old picked up the knock during Sunday’s tense 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Madueke started the match but was replaced at half-time by Bukayo Saka. Manager Mikel Arteta later explained, “He had an issue very early in the match and he wasn’t well enough to continue.”

While the club received a sigh of relief on Monday when scans ruled out a devastating Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear, the recovery timeline is still a major concern. The injury is expected to keep Madueke out of action until late November, meaning he could miss up to 14 matches for both club and country.

His absence begins immediately, ruling him out of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup trip to Port Vale and this weekend’s Premier League visit to Newcastle. He will also miss key Champions League and domestic fixtures, as well as England’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

If his recovery stays on track, Madueke could make a dramatic return in the North London derby against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on November 23rd. That would set up a blockbuster week for his comeback, with Arsenal then scheduled to face Bayern Munich in Europe and his former club, Chelsea.

The injury compounds a difficult period for Arsenal’s attack. Madueke joins a treatment room that includes Kai Havertz, who has been out since August, and Gabriel Jesus, who is still working his way back from a long-term ACL injury. Captain Martin Odegaard is also currently sidelined with a shoulder issue, though the club is hopeful for his swift return.

Matches Madueke is Expected to Miss:

  • Arsenal: Port Vale (A), Newcastle (A), Olympiacos (H), West Ham (H), Fulham (A), Atletico Madrid (H), Crystal Palace (H), Burnley (A), Slavia Prague (A), Sunderland (A)
  • England: Wales (H), Latvia (A), Serbia (H), Albania (A)
