Football Manager isn’t just a game. It’s a way of life for some.
And what does one do when you clinch a league title on the final day of the season? Let off a flare in your room of course.
Football Manager gives us an opportunity to see if we’re really as good as the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp
This is what Jamie Towers, a 20-year-old from Ayr, did as he guided Hamilton to the Scottish Premiership on the popular game in dramatic circumstances.
Hamilton pipped favourites Celtic to the title, winning the league by a single point.
“It was a really close title race,” Jamie told SPORTbible.
“It came down to the the last day of the season and Celtic lost to Rangers at Ibrox. I had to beat Aberdeen and we eventually won 2-1. It was mad.”
Moments later, Jamie let off a flare inside his own room to celebrate the title.
The coronavirus pandemic has put the football and sporting world on hold for the foreseeable future, however, this has led to a surge in popularity for Football Manager as fans look for other ways to get their footballing fix.
talkSPORT’s Darren Bent is an avid player of the game and revealed how he made Liverpool even better than they already are despite selling the likes of Jordan Henderson, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
Bent told the Sports Breakfast: “I kept Alisson in goal, Trent is brilliant so I kept him, and Virgil van Dijk is the best in the world so of course I kept him.
“But Joe Gomez kept saying he wants to leave, he ‘wants a bigger challenge’ – we’ve just won the Champions League and Premier League titles, everything!
Darren Bent has demolished Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team – and made the Reds even better!
“He had an attitude problem. So I sold him and brought in Leonardo Bonucci. Him and Van Dijk are solid.
“I sold Andy Robertson so bought in Ben Chilwell.
“Then, in midfield, I just sold everyone. I sold Jordan Henderson to Man United for like £87million!
“So, instead, I’ve got N’Golo Kante and Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich – what a player he is – and Paulo Dybala in front of them.
“Salah, Mane and Firmino, I sold all of them too.
“So on one side I’ve got Jadon Sancho, at centre-forward is Timo Werner – 52 goals in his first season! – and on the other side I’ve got Kylian Mbappe!
“Does that team beat Liverpool right now? It’d be close, wouldn’t it?!”
