Man United Make Benjamin Šeško Top Striker Target – Højlund Could Be Part of Shock Swap Deal

Red Devils Eye RB Leipzig Star as Alternative to Watkins, But Face Newcastle Competition in High-Stakes Transfer Battle

Manchester United have set their sights on RB Leipzig’s rising star Benjamin Šeško, identifying the Slovenian striker as their top attacking target this summer. However, in a bold twist, the club could offer struggling forward Rasmus Højlund as part of a player-plus-cash deal to land their man.

According to The Mail, United have already made contact with Leipzig through intermediaries to discuss a potential move for the 21-year-old, who could cost between £60-70 million plus add-ons. Šeško has emerged as the preferred choice over Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, but Newcastle United are also in the race, setting up a potential bidding war.

In a surprising development, United are reportedly open to including Højlund—who has failed to live up to his £72 million price tag since arriving last summer—as part of the deal. The Danish striker managed just 16 goals in his debut season, leaving the club open to a reshuffle up front.

Beyond Højlund, United are also looking to offload several fringe players to free up funds and squad space. The so-called “bomb squad”—Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho—could all be moved on, with Sancho’s Bundesliga experience at Borussia Dortmund potentially making him an attractive option for Leipzig.

Šeško, who scored 18 goals in his first Bundesliga season, is seen as a dynamic and physical forward who could thrive in the Premier League. With Erik ten Hag eager to revamp his attack, this high-stakes transfer could define United’s summer—and their season ahead.
