Red Devils resume talks with Napoli star while keeping Gyökeres option alive after dismal season
Manchester United have reopened negotiations for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as they desperately seek to rebuild their attack following one of the worst Premier League campaigns in the club’s history, according to reports.
The Nigerian striker, who saw a potential move to Al-Hilal collapse despite a lucrative Saudi offer, is now back on United’s radar. French outlet Foot Mercato claims discussions have revived over a €75m deal including bonuses, with Osimhen reportedly open to a €12m annual salary.
A Season of Struggle Sparks Striker Hunt
United’s 15th-place finish under Ruben Amorim – their worst-ever Premier League performance – laid bare their attacking deficiencies. The team scored fewer goals than all but four top-flight clubs, with strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Højlund managing just seven league goals combined.
While Matheus Cunha’s £62.5m arrival from Wolves provides some reinforcement, INEOS remains determined to land a marquee forward. The club had previously targeted Ipswich’s Liam Delap before Chelsea swooped in, and saw a bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo rejected.

With Champions League football off the table after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, United face an uphill battle to attract top talent. However, their willingness to pay premium wages and fees demonstrates the urgency of their striker search as they aim to avoid another disastrous season.
As talks progress, the coming weeks will reveal whether Osimhen, Gyökeres, or another target will lead United’s attacking revival. One thing is certain – after scoring just 45 league goals last term, reinforcements can’t come soon enough for the frustrated Old Trafford faithful.
